MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting at a block party in McRae-Helena that injured two people, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

23-year-old Jermaine Lamont Robinson of McRae-Helena and 24-year-old Xavier Noel Johnson Orozco of Cochran were charged following the April 18 shooting.

According to investigators, officers with the McRae-Helena Police Department were on patrol around 11:35 p.m. on April 18 when they heard gunshots coming from the area of a block party near Scury Street and First Street.

As officers responded, they spotted a car leaving the party and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a short pursuit before crashing. Multiple people then ran from the vehicle.

Robinson was taken into custody by McRae-Helena police officers following the crash, according to the GBI. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, tampering with evidence and obstruction.

Investigators said Orozco later turned himself in to the Eastman Police Department. He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, two counts of tampering with evidence, drive-by shooting and obstruction.

Both men were booked into the Telfair County Jail.

The GBI said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
