Warner Robins VFW collects donations for South Georgia fire victims
The Warner Robins VFW post members and citizens have stepped up to help collect water, food, clothes, masks, and anything else that will help.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Victims of the South Georgia fire victims are still in need, so the Warner Robins VFW post members and citizens have stepped up to help collect water, food, clothes, masks and anything else that will help.
VFW post 6605 commander Rick Nagy says it all started with a social media post.
“We were alerted through our command at the state, and we put out a social media post,” Nagy said. “Next thing we knew, we had a room full of donations. We saw people in need and stepped up and ran with it.”
Nagy says since the post the community has been a blessing, with donating items.
“We put two posts out on social media, and it has been none stop community,” Nagy said. “They have been stepping up and coming in everyday, all times of day and night. I come in and we’ve got stuff in our drop box, and it’s all community and all the VFW, but mostly community.”
President of the VFW post 6605 Tersea Cochran says they are taking donations to help assist the firefighters.
“The protein drinks, Powerades, gel packs, those types of things,” Cochran said. “Snacks that are easy to put in the hand for them to eat, that’s not going to melt everywhere. Lots of water, cleaning materials for their face shields and vehicles that there using to fight the fires. And masks, the smoke is horrendous down there, so having those N95 masks are going to be important for us to have, to deliver to them.”
Cochran says they are continuing to take donations, as long as there is a need.
“The first shipment will go out tomorrow, Friday, May 1,” Cochran said. “So, the VFW members will be driving down there. We will continue to collect, sort and box up donations going forward until we hear otherwise.”
Nagy says helping veterans is what the VFW does, but their mission is to help all in need.
“We’ve got to take care of our own people,” Nagy said. “Even if it’s civilians, veterans, it doesn’t matter. We’ve got to take care of humans as humans.”
The Warner Robins VFW is located at 1011 Corder Rd.
