King Charles visits Washington amid diplomatic tensions
King Charles is set to address Congress, delivering a message focused on strengthening the U.S.-U.K. alliance and reinforcing shared democratic values, according to Buckingham Palace officials.

(NBC)- A ceremonial state visit is underway in Washington as King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrive in the U.S., blending royal pageantry with complex geopolitical challenges.
King Charles is set to address Congress, delivering a message focused on strengthening the U.S.-U.K. alliance and reinforcing shared democratic values, according to Buckingham Palace officials.
The visit comes at a sensitive time, as tensions simmer between Donald Trump and Keir Starmer.
“This is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with,” Trump said, signaling frustration with the U.K. and other European allies over their level of support in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Officials say allies are hopeful the king’s personal relationship with Trump could help ease diplomatic strains during the visit, which also marks celebrations tied to America’s 250th anniversary.
The visit will be capped with a formal state dinner at the White House.
Meanwhile, security concerns remain front and center following the recent shooting incident connected to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Karoline Leavitt confirmed the administration has held meetings with the Department of Homeland Security and United States Secret Service to review and strengthen security protocols ahead of upcoming high-profile events.
The suspect in that case, Cole Allen, made his first court appearance Monday and is facing federal charges, including attempting to assassinate the president.
Officials say while the Secret Service response was effective in stopping the threat, potential changes to security procedures are now under consideration.
