FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two men were arrested following a traffic stop that led to a vehicle pursuit, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident began April 24 when a Monroe County deputy conducted a traffic stop and requested assistance from a K-9 unit to search the vehicle.

While the driver, identified as Quanderrick Millsaps of Savannah, was speaking with the deputy, the passenger, identified as Marquis Maxwell, also of Savannah, entered the driver’s seat and fled the scene in the vehicle, authorities said. Millsaps then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by other Monroe County deputies.

Authorities said a lengthy pursuit followed, ending when the vehicle was stopped at mile post 166 in Bibb County. After the vehicle was stopped, Maxwell attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

Millsaps and Maxwell were each charged with obstruction of law enforcement, trafficking marijuana, possession of controlled substances and multiple traffic-related offenses. Maxwell also faces an additional charge of felony fleeing.

Both men are being held at the Monroe County Jail without bond.
