Autism Awareness Fair To Connect Middle Georgia Families With Resources And Support

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Families in Middle Georgia will soon have the opportunity to connect with vital resources and support at an upcoming Autism Awareness Fair.

Attendees will be able to meet with a variety of vendors and service providers, including ABA and speech therapists, as well as organizations like Neurostars Phonics Factory, Rising Scholars Collective, ImpactXR, Sparkle Psychological, Communications Dynamics, Milestones Moments ABA, Hope Foster Care & Adoption, Skycare ABA, Neal Student Support Advocacy & Disability, The Council on Alcohol and Drugs, and The Arc Macon.

Chair of the Autism Awareness Fair Committee, Shelby Long, says bringing all of these resources together in one place can make a meaningful difference for families.

In addition to educational opportunities, the event will also feature several interactive and wellness-based activities. A silent disco Zumba session will be led by certified fitness instructor Traci Williams, offering a sensory-friendly way for participants to stay active.

There will also be breathing and yoga exercises led by Laura Sugg, President of the Central Georgia Autism Board and The Arc Macon. Organizers say these activities are designed to help with nervous system regulation, which can be especially beneficial for individuals with autism.

The event will also feature a special guest speaker, saxophonist Jimmy Rollins of the Dubshak Band, who will share his personal experience growing up with autism and perform live music.

Additionally, Farryn Slaton-Barkley of The Rising Scholars Collective will provide information on financial assistance options available to families for therapy, tutoring, and other services.

Organizers say they are also working to make the event accessible and welcoming by providing free food for up to 200 attendees, including hot dogs or burgers, chips, and drinks.

Overall, the goal of the Autism Awareness Fair is to create a space where families can learn, connect, and feel supported.

The Autism Awareness Fair is taking place Saturday April 25 from 10a.m. until 1p.m. at St. Peter Claver in Macon.
