MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The National Weather Service now confirms eight tornadoes touched down across Middle Georgia during severe storms on Thursday, March 12, increasing the total from three previously reported by the NWS.

The update adds to initial survey results released March 13, which confirmed three tornadoes in Middle Georgia and said additional tracks could be identified as inspections continued.

In a Public Information Statement Wednesday, the NWS said additional damage surveys identified new tornado tracks in Monroe, Dooly, Baldwin and Laurens counties. Those include an EF1 tornado in Forsyth in Monroe County and another EF1 tornado in Laurens County.

Separately, the NWS released additional survey details about a tornado that moved through north Macon on Monday, March 16. NWS said the EF0 tornado touched down around 7:58 a.m. near Payne City and tracked northeast for nearly two miles before lifting near the Ocmulgee River.

The tornado caused damage along Pierce Avenue and near Northwoods Academy, including uprooted trees, damage to homes and vehicles and an overturned U-Haul truck, the update said.
