Police: Man charged after showing up at Perry school with machete

Police say the suspect was taken into custody after officers responded to a report of a man with a machete outside Langston Road Elementary School.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man was arrested Friday morning after he showed up at Langston Road Elementary School in Perry with a machete, according to the Perry Police Department.

A news release says Houston 911 received a call around 6:30 a.m. reporting a person with a machete beating on a door at the school.

Officers with the Perry Police Department responded and located a man who was in possession of a machete, according to the release.

Police identified the man as Cody Alley. Officers took him into custody at the scene.

According to the release, there were no children at the school at the time. Custodial staff members were on campus preparing for a field day event, according to police.

No injuries were reported.

Houston County jail records show Alley is 36. Police say he is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, disrupting or interfering with a public school and criminal trespass.
