GBI investigating shooting deaths of two men in Dodge County

The GBI says one man was found shot inside a home while the other was found nearby with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

EASTMAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the deaths of two Eastman men after a shooting Tuesday at a home on Eastman Dublin Highway, according to the GBI.

A news release Wednesday said the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate the deaths of 48-year-old Jonathan Lee Groves and 60-year-old Rex Willis Giddens.

Deputies responded Tuesday to a home in the 3400 block of Eastman Dublin Highway in Eastman. When they entered the home, deputies found Groves with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Preliminary findings indicate Groves was shot by Giddens.

Deputies later found Giddens in the woods near the home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also pronounced dead at the scene, according to the GBI.

The bodies of both men will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.
