MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Rep. Miriam Paris (D), who represents District 142 in Macon, serves on several committees in the Georgia House, including Appropriations, Education, Economic Development and Tourism, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, and Urban Affairs. During an interview, she discussed the issues she is focusing on during the current legislative session and the concerns she is hearing from constituents back home.

Paris said many residents in her district are closely watching decisions related to education, economic growth, and state funding priorities. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, she is directly involved in discussions about how the state budget is allocated and how resources can best support communities across Georgia.

Along with her legislative work, Paris is also helping host an upcoming ceremony recognizing International Women’s Day. The event is scheduled for March 9 at 2 p.m. at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.

The ceremony will celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in leadership, business, and communities across the state. Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear shades of purple, a color traditionally associated with International Women’s Day.

Paris says the event is meant to highlight the impact women continue to have in shaping communities and public service while also inspiring the next generation of leaders.

The ceremony will take place on the South Wing stairs at the Georgia State Capitol and is open to the public.
