(NBC)- Gunshots rang out early Sunday morning in a popular Austin nightlife district as a deadly mass shooting left two people dead and 14 others injured.

“This morning, the FBI is on the scene investigating a deadly mass shooting in a popular Austin nightlife area,” authorities confirmed.

Emergency radio traffic captured the chaos unfolding.

“I’ve just been flagged down — somebody advising there’s an active shooter,” one dispatcher said.

Investigators say a gunman opened fire at Buford’s Beer Garden, killing two people and wounding 14 others.

Four sources familiar with the investigation have identified the suspect as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal with possible mental health issues.

Witnesses described scenes of panic.

“I heard people screaming, people running from this side over here,” one person said.

The alleged shooter was reportedly wearing a “Property of Allah” sweatshirt and a shirt with an Iranian flag emblem underneath, according to multiple sources. Authorities are now working to determine whether the attack was an act of terrorism.

“It’s still way too early in the process to determine exact motivation, but there were indicators on the subject and in his vehicle that indicate potential nexus to terrorism,” said Doran.

Police say officers arrived on scene in under a minute.

Nathan Comeaux had just left the bar when the shooting began.

“It was really scary, because the shooter was walking towards me,” Comeaux said.

Comeaux watched as police rushed in and ultimately shot and killed the gunman.

“How did you feel?” a reporter asked.

“I just felt shocked. When I look back on it, I’m like, oh my God — if I walked out of that bar five minutes later, I would have been on the patio instead of those other victims,” Comeaux said.
