President Trump Set For Lengthy State Of The Union As Democrats Plan Boycott

(NBC)- With few confirmed details about tonight’s State of the Union address, President Donald Trump’s recent public comments and posts on Truth Social may offer clues about what Americans can expect.

One thing the president has made clear: the speech will be lengthy.

“It’s going to be a long speech, because we have so much to talk about,” President Trump said.

The address comes as new polling shows challenges for the administration. According to a Washington Post/ABC poll, 60% of Americans disapprove of the president’s overall performance, with more than half expressing disapproval of key policies ranging from the economy to international relations and immigration enforcement. Changing minds could be a central focus of the president’s remarks as he makes his case to the nation.

Some Democrats have announced they will not attend the address in protest.

“It’s important to show the American public that someone that has led the single most corrupt government in U.S. history, there has to be action against that,” said Representative Robert Garcia of California.

There has been no confirmation on who the president’s invited guests will be. However, attention is expected to focus on the Supreme Court following its 6–3 ruling limiting the president’s ability to impose tariffs.

Economic issues are expected to be front and center, with many Americans watching for proposals on lowering inflation and consumer prices. The president has argued his administration is already delivering results.

“Then I have to listen to the fake news talking about affordability… I’ve won. I’ve won affordability,” Trump said.

At least a dozen Democrats plan to boycott the speech and instead attend rallies in Washington, D.C. Six Democratic lawmakers, including Congressman Ro Khanna, plan to bring survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse as their guests.

The official Democratic response will be delivered by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, with Senator Alex Padilla set to deliver a Spanish-language response.

The address is expected to draw sharp contrasts between the president and his critics as both parties make their case to the American public.
