FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fort Valley has made a change in the interim police chief position following a special called city council meeting held Thursday night.

According to an announcement from Mayor Shakeena Reeves following an executive session, Captain David Wilson will now serve as interim police chief.

Earlier this week, 41NBC News reported that the interim police chief position would go to Captain Alger Raines following the departure of Chief DJ Flores.

The city has not provided an explanation for Chief Flores’ departure or for the change in the interim appointment.

Reeves also announced that the city will post the positions of city administrator and fire chief.

41NBC News attempted to speak with Mayor Shakeena Reeves following the meeting.

“Respectfully, no comment,” she said.

41NBC News has reached out multiple times seeking answers about the ongoing leadership changes in Fort Valley. Those calls and messages have not been returned, while the mayor has continued to post publicly on Facebook.

41NBC News will continue seeking clarification from city leaders and will provide updates as they become available.
