Rain clears this evening; cloud cover lingers tomorrow

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The cold front will clear Middle Georgia this evening however cloud cover on the back side of the low pressure will stick around through Thursday.
This Evening
Rain associated with the cold front today should clear Middle Georgia’s southeastern counties sometime after sunset. The wind will shift from the southwest to the northwest during the early overnight hours with gusts pushing 15-20 mph. Some clearing of the clouds is expected initially, however more low-level clouds will arrive from the northeast ahead of sunrise tomorrow. Low temperatures will be around freezing with the coldest spots potentially dropping a degree or two below. Road temperatures will remain above freezing, however, so no leftover moisture will freeze.
Tomorrow
Much of Thursday will be overcast save for the far western reaches of Middle Georgia that may see more sunshine. The wind will flow from the northwest at around 5-10 mph with gusts to around 15 mph. Thanks to the lingering cloud cover expect high temperatures to largely be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
Overnight will be a different story as cloud cover will work to clear out during the sunset hours. The wind will remain out of the northwest at 5-10 mph. Expect temperatures in the upper 20s for lows rolling into Friday morning. It will be a good idea for Middle Georgians to bring in their pets and plants and wouldn’t hurt to drip the faucets, however that last bit likely won’t be a necessity.
Friday and Beyond
Sunny skies will return on Friday along with temperatures near average in the afternoon. It will be a bit breezy from the west-southwest with those winds becoming more northwesterly on Saturday thanks to a weak cold front. Sunny conditions are expected through the weekend with a warmup to follow early next week.
