Fort Valley leaders accept Gary Lee’s resignation during special meeting
Council members voted to remove interim leadership resolutions before accepting the resignation.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fort Valley leaders held a special called meeting Tuesday night to accept the resignation of City Administrator Gary Lee.
Two additional items were originally listed on the agenda. One would have authorized Mayor Shakeena Reeves to act as city administrator until a replacement is found. The other was a resolution to appoint Captain Alger Raines as interim police chief of Fort Valley.
The city council voted to remove both items from the agenda. Council members then accepted Lee’s resignation and adjourned the meeting.
41NBC News has attempted to speak with Mayor Reeves about the decision to remove the agenda items and the recent leadership changes in Fort Valley but has not been able to make contact.
Calls, texts and emails seeking comment have not been returned. 41NBC News also waited after the meeting, but the mayor left through a side door.
41NBC News will continue seeking clarification from city leaders and will provide updates as they become available.
