Cochran announces new garbage collection program starting in March

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — City of Cochran residents will see changes to their garbage collection service beginning in early March, as the city transitions to a new provider, Ryland Environmental.

Mayor Carla Davis Coley said a generic informational flyer is being included in utility bills this week to alert customers about the upcoming changes. The flyer does not list specific pickup days.

City officials said residents will receive separate, household-specific information in the near future detailing their individual collection day. Officials added that very few, if any, pickup days are expected to change.

New service begins March 2

According to the city, Ryland Environmental will begin collecting household garbage on March 2, 2026.

Residents are instructed to place their garbage carts within four feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. Carts should be positioned with the arrows on the lid facing the street and the handle facing the house. Carts must also be placed at least five feet away from obstacles such as cars, mailboxes, and power poles.

Bulk pickup and yard waste details

Bulk item pickup will take place on the second Friday of each month. Residents must call the City of Cochran at 478-934-6346 to schedule a bulk pickup.

Yard waste will be collected weekly on the same day as regular trash service. The maximum size for yard waste is 5 feet long by 5 feet high by 5 feet wide. Any material exceeding that limit will be left and serviced the following week.

Recycling option may be added

City officials also said a recycling cart option may be added in the future. At least 100 customers must sign up for Ryland Environmental to provide recycling service. More information on recycling enrollment will be shared soon.

Residents with questions or concerns about the new service can contact Ryland Environmental at 478-272-4411, Option 3.

Mayor Coley said the city is looking forward to the transition and the improvements it will bring.

“We are excited to see positive change beginning in March, and we hope you are as well,” she said.
