COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Authorities are responding to a fatal multi-vehicle crash involving several tractor-trailers on Interstate 16.

According to the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, fire crews and EMS are on the scene of a crash in the eastbound lanes of I-16 at mile marker 33 involving multiple 18-wheelers. Officials confirmed there are multiple critically injured patients and at least one fatality.

Drivers are urged to avoid traveling in the area if possible.

In addition to the Interstate 16 crash, Laurens County officials responded to another reported accident near the 37-mile marker.

Emergency personnel remain in the roadway and urge drivers to use caution if travel is unavoidable.
