United Way of Central Georgia Awarded $5K McDonald’s Golden Grant to Support Local Students

United Way of Central Georgia is celebrating a major boost for local education efforts.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The organization has been selected as one of the 2025 McDonald’s Golden Grant recipients, receiving $5,000 to directly support programs benefiting youth and families in the Macon area.

United Way was one of twelve recipients across South Georgia and North Florida chosen for this year’s grant program, which awards funding based on innovation, community need, and hands-on impact. In total, McDonald’s awarded $45,000 to nonprofits and schools working to strengthen learning opportunities for children.

The Golden Grants program is in its fifth year and helps support projects such as mentorship programs, technology initiatives, after-school learning, homeless student resources, arts education, and more.

Dr. Sundra Woodford, who leads Community Engagement and Community Schools efforts with United Way, says the award will further their mission to help students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Applications for the program will reopen in June 2026, giving more local organizations the chance to secure funding for student success.
