Driver found dead after stolen vehicle crash in Taylor County

Deputies say the vehicle was reported stolen before it was found overturned on Cold Creek Road Saturday morning.

TAYLOR COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a stolen vehicle was found dead after a crash Saturday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, deputies received reports of a stolen vehicle on Saturday. Georgia State Patrol states that a Trooper responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Cold Creek Road near Evergreen Church Road in Taylor County around 8:29 a.m.

GSP says the driver of a Ford Explorer failed to maintain his lane of travel, which caused the Ford Explorer to exit the roadway and strike an embankment. After impact with the embankment, the Ford Explorer struck a fence and overturned several times, ejecting the driver.

The driver was pronounced deceased on the crash scene by the Taylor County Coroner.

Deputies have not identified the driver. The Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation.
