Another round of rain Wednesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Another cold front passing through Georgia will bring rain Wednesday afternoon and evening.

It’s been a chilly and overcast day around Middle Georgia with some cool winds from the northeast. Those winds will slow a bit more overnight tonight as they remain out of the northeast. A shift towards the southeast is likely as the sun rises Wednesday morning. Overnight lows will hover around 50 degrees as skies remain overcast. A stray shower or two remains possible however rain odds tonight are slim.

Another cloudy day is likely with a cold front that will bring rain in the afternoon and evening. Winds will shift from the southeast in the morning to the southwest in the afternoon ranging from 5-15 mph. Gusts could push as high as 25 mph. Once the rain arrives from the west in the region over the back half of the day the wind will become more westerly. Highs will likely range from the lower 60 into the upper 60s. While the rain should mainly be just that a few rumbles of thunder could be possible in the southern reaches of the region. No severe weather is expected.

Some clearing of the clouds is expected after the immediate passing of the cold front, however overcast conditions will return ahead of Thursday morning. Overnight lows are expected in the low to mid 40s accompanied by west-southwest winds at 5-12 mph. Gusts will still range from 15-25 mph.

Thursday will begin the shift back towards more pleasant weather however it will be a gradual process. Expect mostly cloudy skies with plenty of wind out of the west-northwest. A few showers will be possible throughout the day, however any rain will be light. Clouds will clear heading into Thursday night with sunny, cool, and dry conditions likely heading into Halloween.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica this morning with historically low pressure and wind speeds of 180+ mph. It is still expected to impact Cuba over the next few days as a major hurricane. It will then be dragged out north-northeast to sea where it will fizzle out.
