Bibb deputies: Cold case unit makes arrest in 2017 sexual assault

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in a sexual assault cold case from 2017.
Deputies arrested 66-year-old Robert Lee Carter on Monday. He’s charged with rape and has been denied bond.
The case began September 16, 2017. Investigators sent evidence to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime lab.
BCSO says further findings from evidence were submitted, and investigators found a match in DNA evidence linked to a rape conviction in 1989.
The Cold Case Unit says in a statement, “We are dedicated to uncovering the truth, delivering justice, and providing closure to victims and their families, all while upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism”
