Hit & miss showers linger through Friday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible late afternoon and evening. Overall trends favor the best chances for diurnally driven convection over mountain peaks in northeast Georgia. Elsewhere conditions are so marginal due to a lack of forcing. A couple of storms should still occur about 10 to 20 percent rain chances for most of north and Middle Georgia. Severe weather is not expected today due to a lack of shear. For the rest of the afternoon expect 90 degree temperatures. This will be especially true in Middle Georgia where both Macon and Columbus are favored to reach 90 degrees. High 80s are expected for most of north Georgia. Overall temperatures will be 4 to 9 degrees above seasonal averages. Friday will be very similar to today, with widespread high temperatures in the low 90s and upper 80s. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will again be possible during the afternoon, although the odds of rainfall at any given location are less than 10%. The exception will be the mountains of northeast Georgia where afternoon rainfall chances are closer to 20%. While a couple of lightning strikes could occur, severe weather is not expected. Any rainfall will be light, brief and have little impact on the current dry weather trend.
