Samantha’s Favorite Apps For Weather Watchers

Sometimes you just can’t get to the TV. The power might be out. You’re stuck in the waiting room at the doctor’s office and you hear a rumble of thunder. Or you’re out of town and you don’t have access to your television. No problem!

If you’ve got an iPhone, Android, or other smart phone, there are TONS of weather apps out there, so you’ll know exactly whether or not you’re going to need an umbrella for your sister’s outdoor wedding ceremony…

Below you’ll find a few of my personal favorites:

1.) Swackett (Free): Swackett is without a doubt one of my absolute favorites. Not only is it usually right on par with forecasts, it tells you *exactly* what you need for the day — whether it’s a smaller jacket, or sunglasses. You’ll find sky conditions for the day, a high temperature, and a “feels like” temperature. You can also find some nifty weather facts just by scrolling to the right. Best of all, if you don’t like what your person is wearing, you can opt for another outfit.

2.) Wunderground (Free): Wunderground is one of the best out there. Not only will you find your current temperature, but they have continuously updated extended forecasts, as well. From the day’s high, to tomorrow morning’s low temperature, you’ll find what you need with Wunderground. You can also access their Twitter feed directly from the app. (Don’t forget — Chief Meteorologist Michael Estime and I are on Twitter too! @41NBC_Weather)

3.) MyRadar (Free): MyRadar is perfect for that afternoon at the ballpark when you hear a rumble of thunder and you want to see when those first raindrops will start falling. (Trust me, I’ve been there!) In fact, I use it quite frequently when I’m out of the office and don’t have access to our radar. On MyRadar you’ll find current temperatures for several cities, and radar images that are always updating.

4.) AL GA Radar ($0.99): AL GA is well worth the money! You can access regional radar and radar for both Alabama and Georgia. You can further specify the area you’d like to see by selecting Middle Georgia.

5.) RadarScope ($9.99): RadarScope is top of the line and by far, my favorite weather application. You have access to NEXRAD Level 3 radar and National Weather Service issued warnings. The availability of different radar products (Reflectivity, Velocity) is outstanding!
