One Big Fish Fry brings food, fellowship and vision for Greenwood Bottom revitalization

The free event will bring residents together for food, music and a shared vision for the neighborhood.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A community event aimed at celebrating culture, unity and revitalization is returning to Macon’s historic Greenwood Bottom District for its third year.

Organizers announced that One Big Fish Fry will take place on August 29 at 5 p.m. at 1410 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The event will feature food, music and fellowship, with a focus on honoring Southern Black traditions of gathering around a shared meal to build community and inspire change.

Organizers described the fish fry as more than a cookout, calling it a “cultural declaration and a rallying cry for change.”

“This isn’t your average night,” organizers said in the announcement. “History shows us that the most significant movements don’t start in boardrooms; they begin right here—around a table, sharing a meal, and building the bonds of community.”

In addition to fried fish, the evening will include live music, local food and conversations centered on the future of the Greenwood Bottom District. Organizers said the event aims to highlight cultural pride, economic empowerment and community-led progress.

One Big Fish Fry is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to bring their families, friends and neighbors.
