Macon Regional Crimestoppers marks 25 years of solving crimes in Middle Georgia

The community program has helped police catch fugitives and will celebrate its anniversary at a November luncheon.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) —Macon Regional Crimestoppers is marking 25 years of helping law enforcement agencies solve crimes across Middle Georgia.

The community-run program partners with police departments, sheriff’s offices and media outlets in eight counties. It offers rewards of up to $2,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.

A legacy of public safety

Sergeant Greg Thomas of Crimestoppers said the program has had a lasting impact. “25 years of being able to give peace of mind to the public. We serve the seven counties that surround Bibb County,” Thomas said. One of the program’s major achievements came from a campaign that highlighted 120 wanted fugitives. Only two of them remain at large today.

A valued law enforcement partner

Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton praised the program for its role in community safety. “Without them we could not do our job, we could not keep Houston County safe and I look forward to many more years of a great partnership,” Moulton said.

Anniversary celebration planned

Macon Regional Crimestoppers will celebrate its 25th anniversary during its annual Fall Luncheon on November 3 at the Macon Coliseum conference center. About 500 people are expected to attend.

Organizers continue to encourage the public to share information that could help solve crimes. You can report tips by calling 1-877-68-CRIME.
