MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Four girls were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after an SUV hit them at an intersection in Macon, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was called into the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at 4:56 p.m. It happened at the intersection of Mumford Road and Case Street.

According to deputies, the driver of a gold sedan was heading east on Mumford Road and turned left toward Case Street. A black SUV traveling west on Mumford Road collided with the sedan, veered off the road and struck four minor female pedestrians.

All four girls were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Medical staff told deputies they are in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the sedan was cited for no insurance, suspended registration, driving while unlicensed and failure to yield while turning left. The owner of the sedan was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle.

Deputies said the information is preliminary and the investigation is ongoing.
