UPDATE (4:35p.m.): The Houston County School District says Perry High School was placed under a Code Yellow this afternoon as a precaution while law enforcement investigated a reported threat near the end of the school day.
The school sent messages to parents from Principal Art Billings saying:
“Please be advised that Perry High School is currently under a Code Yellow. Let me assure you that all students are safe in their classes. There is no threat inside the school. We are unsure how long this Code Yellow will take, but because it is so close to dismissal, this could affect our dismissal time and process. We will keep you updated as we learn more.”
The school also sent a follow up message saying:
“UPDATE: Law enforcement is working on a plan to release Perry High students as we return to normal dismissal operations. Car riders will be released first. Parents are asked to pick up their child in the car rider line, entering from Hwy 41 to North Avenue. Student drivers and bus riders will be released next. Thank you for your patience as we conduct a controlled dismissal.”
A spokesperson for the school district also addressed rumors circulating on social media that claimed there had been a shooting on campus.
“This is not true,” she said.
School officials said they would continue to provide updates to parents as more information becomes available.
