Bibb County Jail inmate starts fire outside cell

Deputies say the fire was quickly put out and no one was injured. The incident remains under investigation.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County deputies are investigating after an inmate started a fire inside the jail Thursday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened just after 4 p.m., according to an email from the sheriff’s office. 41NBC reached out after receiving a call from a concerned viewer.

The sheriff’s office says deputies quickly put out the fire, and no injuries or damages have been reported.

The fire remains under investigation.
