Former deputy arrested after domestic dispute involving firearm
Deputy fired after GBI investigation into off-duty domestic incident in Paulding County

DALLAS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)— A former Paulding County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested following a domestic dispute that involved a firearm and occurred while he was off duty.
According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the GBI arrested Terry Scott McAdams, 36, of Dallas, Georgia, after an investigation into a July 16 domestic incident involving his spouse. McAdams has been charged with Reckless Conduct, Battery under the Family Violence Act, and Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. on July 16, a family member of the victim contacted Paulding E-911 to report the dispute between a husband and wife. Deputies were dispatched to the residence and quickly identified it as the home of Deputy McAdams.
Upon being notified, Sheriff Ashley Henson immediately contacted the GBI to request an independent investigation. Officials said McAdams was off duty at the time, and the incident did not involve department-issued gear or equipment.
The GBI’s investigation revealed that a gun was fired while a child was present. Following their findings, McAdams was arrested and booked into the Paulding County Adult Detention Center. He was later housed at a facility in a neighboring county until being granted bond.
As soon as the arrest was made, McAdams’ employment with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office was terminated.
“We are committed to protecting all of our citizens no matter who is involved,” said Sheriff Henson. “Arresting and firing one of your own is one of the most difficult things a sheriff has to do. No one is above the law, especially one of our own. We will always do what is right.”
The GBI is continuing its investigation. Anyone with additional questions may contact the GBI Region 1 Investigative Office at (706) 624-1424.
