Georgia State Patrol searching for driver after deadly Fort Valley hit-and-run

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man is dead after a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday in Fort Valley, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened around 2:04 a.m. on July 23 on Georgia 96.
According to a news release, Peach County 911 was alerted to the crash involving a pedestrian who was pushing a green shopping cart. The vehicle struck the man and left the scene without notifying emergency personnel.
Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks identified the victim as 55-year-old James Oates.
GSP is asking for the public’s help in locating a charcoal gray vehicle with a damaged tinted headlight. The vehicle is believed to have been traveling west on Georgia 96 between midnight and 2 a.m.
