MIDDLE GEORGIA – (41NBC/WMGT) – Before the Home Run Derby took center stage Monday night, the 2025 MLB Draft got underway Sunday with several familiar names earning their shot at the big leagues.

On Monday night, former Houston County High School star and Florida State standout Gage Harrelson, who also played for the Macon Bacon, was selected in the 16th round by the Los Angeles Angels with the 469th overall pick.

The very next pick, another former Bacon star was drafted. Jackson Phipps from Jacksonville State was selected by the Athletics with the 470th overall selection.

Eric Snow, a 2022 Mary Persons High School graduate, is headed north of the border after being selected in the sixth round by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 172nd overall pick.

Mercer University alum Ely Brown also heard his name called, going to the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round with the 346th overall selection.

The Atlanta Braves used their first-round pick on Tate Southisene, a standout from Basic High School in Nevada, selecting him 22nd overall on Sunday.

After the draft, former Mercer shortstop Bradley Frye was signed onto the San Diego Padres in a free agent deal.
