Hollywood Minute: Superman returns to theaters as Tom Morello drops new protest song

“Superman,” the latest installment from writer-director James Gunn, hits theaters with a familiar message at its core.

(CNN)- “Superman,” the latest installment from writer-director James Gunn, hits theaters with a familiar message at its core. While the world may have changed, Gunn insists the Man of Steel has not. “He has always represented goodness and hope and kindness,” Gunn said. “Looking out for people who can’t look out for themselves — in today’s world, that might be the most rebellious and extreme thing someone can do.”

Meanwhile, rocker and activist Tom Morello released a new song titled “Pretend You Remember Me.” The Rage Against the Machine guitarist partnered with the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, drawing inspiration from the ongoing immigration crisis.

“It’s a song inspired by the terror families are facing across the country during ICE raids,” Morello said. “I was on the front lines in L.A., witnessing families being torn apart. It affected me deeply, and I had to respond.” Morello also directed the music video, which premieres alongside the track today.
