UPDATE: Two arrested after July 4 shooting on Sparkle Avenue in Macon left man in critical condition

Deputies say firearms, including two stolen guns, were recovered during the arrest of two men connected to a Macon shooting on July 4.

UPDATE (7/10/25): Two people have been arrested in connection to a July 4 shooting on Sparkle Avenue that left a 24-year-old man in critical condition, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation led deputies with the Criminal Investigations Division and Gang Unit, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, to make arrests during a traffic stop around 10 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Fairfax Drive and Bloomfield Road.

Deputies say 18-year-old Dontavis Anquan Jackson of Macon and an unidentified male passenger ran from the vehicle but were caught after a short foot chase. Investigators identified the other passenger as 24-year-old Michael Winston Burney of Gray, who was taken into custody. Deputies say they found multiple firearms in the vehicle, including two that were reported stolen.

Jackson and Burney were both charged with five counts of aggravated assault and were taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Jackson was also wanted by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for armed robbery and by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held without bond. Burney also does not have a bond.

The unidentified passenger was later identified as 17-year-old Terrace Quantae Austin of Macon. Investigators say he is not a suspect in the aggravated assault case.

Austin was charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He is also being held without bond.

There’s been no update on the victim’s condition since July 5.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting late Friday night that left a 24-year-old man in critical condition.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of a person shot in the 1100 block of Sparkle Avenue at 11:23 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment.
