Macon-Bibb Transit Authority launches rapid transit pilot program

Eligible volunteers are individuals who live, work, or travel frequently in the target areas and are willing to complete the required surveys during the program.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MTA) is launching a new pilot program to test a ride-sharing style transit option, and is seeking volunteers to participate free of charge.

The Rapid Transit program will operate from Monday, July 7 through Saturday, November 1, 2025, with service hours running Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight. No service will be offered on Sundays during the pilot phase.

The service functions through a smartphone or tablet app, similar to platforms like Uber or Lyft. Volunteers must have a smart device and agree to periodically complete online questionnaires about their ride experience. The feedback will help MTA collect data, identify issues, and set service benchmarks.

The pilot route will serve Macon’s downtown/central business district, Shirley Hills, Gray Highway, and Ingleside areas. Specific stops on the route include:

  • Ingleside Avenue to Riverside Drive

  • Riverside Drive to Spring Street

  • Spring Street to Nottingham Drive/Shirley Hills

  • Nottingham Drive/Shirley Hills to Gray Highway Walmart

  • Gray Highway Walmart to Piedmont Hospital

  • Piedmont Hospital to Carolyn Crayton Park/Luther Williams Field

  • Carolyn Crayton Park to Edgewood Avenue

  • Edgewood Avenue to Little Richard Penniman Blvd.

  • Little Richard Penniman Blvd. to Mercer University Drive

  • Mercer University Drive to Pio Nono Avenue

  • Pio Nono Avenue to Vineville Avenue

Eligible volunteers are individuals who live, work, or travel frequently in the target areas and are willing to complete the required surveys during the program.
