Soggy weather continues into Tuesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A trough digging into the Intermountain West provides the kick needed to get the closed low over Louisiana moving again. As the low is absorbed back into the prevailing air flow it will lift northwest toward the Tennessee Valley. This path will keep Georgia under southerly to southwesterly flow in the mid and upper levels and continue to draw Gulf moisture over the state. Occasional shortwaves will ride through enhancing lift and that will lead to periods of increased rain showers and thunderstorm activity. A couple of these storms could be severe or lead to localized flooding. Temperatures should rebound today and Tuesday compared to the weekend. High temperatures in the low to mid 70s in northern Georgia. In Middle Georgia, highs should reach 80 degrees both days. An upper level ridge moves over Georgia on Thursday. This will result in dry weather and warmer temperatures. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s are expected (which is 5 to 10 degrees warmer than average).
