Mobile Mammogram Screenings Offered In Cochran For Early Detection

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents of Cochran had a convenient opportunity to prioritize their health on Thursday, as At Home Senior Living hosted mobile mammogram screenings on-site.

The mobile breast cancer screenings were available to people 40 and older, as well as those with a personal or family history of breast cancer.

Latasha Hill, breast imaging service line manager at Atrium Health Navicent, explained the benefit of making care more accessible.

“If we can bring it to them, that eliminates trips back and forth during the day, and just having it out here makes it accessible for the patients here at the community center,” she said.

The exams were conducted by a registered mammography technologist using state-of-the-art 3D equipment.

Kim Hall, community relations director at At Home Senior Living, says early detection is important.

“We want people to come out and have their mammograms done,” she said. “So, if you’ve got children or grandchildren, you’ve got a purpose, you’ve got a reason to live, and this can save your life.”

Heather Holley, life enrichment coordinator at the facility, says the new mobile mammography coach has made screening easier than ever.

“I think it will help a lot of them come out and get mammograms, where before, if it was hard to get to or far away, they wouldn’t get them at all,” she said.

Melissa Barker, who has a family history of breast cancer, gets screened every year. She shared an important reminder that breast cancer isn’t just a women’s issue.

“So many people equate getting mammograms to something just women do,” she said. “But speaking from experience, I had a male family member that had breast cancer. Doing monthly checks for men is very important. So, it’s not just something for women to be concerned about, it’s something men should be concerned about and keep an eye on.”

If you missed this round of mobile screenings, the service will return to Cochran on May 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
