Big shifts are happening across the tech and consumer landscape this week, with price hikes, sales slumps, major acquisitions, and unexpected outages making headlines.

(LILAMAX)- Popular discount retailers Temu and Shein announced they’ll be raising prices starting April 25th. In a joint statement, the companies cited rising operating expenses due to changes in global trade rules and tariffs. The increase marks a shift for shoppers who’ve come to rely on the platforms for affordable fashion and accessories.
Tesla’s electric vehicle registrations in California fell 15% in the first quarter of the year, according to the New York Post. That’s a significant drop, especially since the state accounts for roughly one-third of all Tesla sales in the U.S. The company and its CEO Elon Musk have faced mounting criticism recently, with protests and even reports of vandalized Teslas surfacing across the country.
Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI is reportedly in talks to acquire Windsurf — an AI-based tool that assists with software coding — in a deal valued at $3 billion. CNBC reports negotiations are ongoing and not yet finalized. This move comes shortly after OpenAI completed a record-breaking $40 billion funding round, positioning the company for continued growth.
Tens of thousands of users were unable to access Zoom during a nearly two-hour global outage. According to The Verge, the issue likely stemmed from domain registry problems, though Zoom has not officially confirmed the cause. At its peak, DownDetector reported over 60,000 user complaints. The platform is now back online.
