(CNN)- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is vowing to continue his work despite a terrifying arson attack at his residence early Sunday morning. Speaking just hours after the incident, Shapiro called the attack “not okay” and reaffirmed his commitment to his role as governor. The attack occurred while Shapiro and his family were asleep inside the Governor’s Residence. Fire crews were called to the scene around 2 a.m. after reports of a large fire in the dining room on the first floor. Flames were visible from the windows, prompting an immediate response from emergency personnel.

Shapiro, his wife, their four children, and two dogs were all safely evacuated, along with another family staying in the residence. Fortunately, there were no injuries. However, the damage to the building was significant. Photos taken afterward show destroyed furniture, ash-covered floors, and remnants of the Passover dinner the governor had hosted just the night before.

Investigators quickly determined that the fire was no accident. The attacker, who had planned the assault, breached the property by scaling a fence and forcibly entering the residence. Police say the suspect was carrying homemade incendiary devices and managed to set the fire in less than a minute, evading troopers who were searching for him at the time.

Later Sunday, authorities apprehended the suspect. Colonel Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner, confirmed the arrest: “I’m pleased to announce that we do have an individual in custody. His name is Cody Balmer.”

In a defiant statement, Governor Shapiro vowed not to be deterred by the attack. “If this individual was trying to deter me from doing my job as your governor, rest assured I will find a way to work even harder,” Shapiro said.
