Sheriff: One dead after crash on Highway 102 in Washington County

A crash on Highway 102 just outside of Warthen left at least one person dead Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE (4/10 – 3:45 p.m.): Georgia State Patrol says the single-vehicle crash happened at 9:37 Wednesday night near 102 near Chalker Road.

“The investigation revealed a westbound vehicle failed to maintain lane and exited the roadway,” GSP said in response to our inquiry. “The vehicle overturned and ejected the driver.”

The driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead on scene by the Washington County Coroner, GSP said.

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A crash on Highway 102 just outside of Warthen left at least one person dead Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Joel Cochran wrote in the post that deputies, rescue crews and emergency services responded to the scene and urged drivers to use caution in the area.

Cochran says Georgia State Patrol in investigating the crash.

No other details, including how many vehicles were involved or the identity of the victim, have been released.
