Montezuma man dies after being struck by vehicle

The victim was transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus where he was pronounced deceased at 2:34 a.m.

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A pedestrian is dead after being fatally struck on Wednesday, according to the Montezuma Police Department.

On April 2 at 1:34 a.m., the Montezuma Police Department was dispatched to an accident on Walnut Street/Highway 26 where a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle who was traveling West bound on Walnut Street/Highway 26.

The victim was transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus where he was pronounced deceased at 2:34 a.m. The victim was identified as 62-year-old Phillip Walker.

Chief Eric Finch of the Montezuma Police Department released the following statement:

“I am asking all our citizens of Macon County to uplift Mr. Walker’s family in prayer during this difficult time. I have known Mr. Walker for several years and known him to have a genuine heart.”

Finch added, “I want to personally thank all our First Responders, Macon County Emergency Medical Services, Montezuma Fire Department, and the Macon County Coroner’s Office, for assisting in this investigation. I further want to thank Corporal Jalen Johnson and K9 Officer Steven Polkinghorn for securing the scene.”
