10-year-old dies after shooting in Macon County, GBI investigating

A 10-year-old child has died after being shot in Macon County, according to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

OGLETHORPE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 10-year-old child has died after being shot in Macon County, according to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

In a news release posted on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the sheriff’s office said Macon County Communications received an emergency call reporting that a 10-year-old had sustained a gunshot wound and needed immediate medical assistance in the 700 block of Everett Wood Road. Macon County Coroner Eddie Hosley says the fatal shooting happened at 9:45 a.m. on Monday.

Emergency crews from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Montezuma Police Department, Macon County Fire & EMS and the Macon County Coroner responded to the scene. The release said that “life-saving measures were initiated promptly.”

Chief Deputy Robert Grady confirmed in a phone call with 41NBC that the child died.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in and is leading the investigation, according to the release. We’ve reached out to the GBI for additional information. At this time, there is no further information to report.
