MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – During this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival, Macon Pride will participate in the downtown Macon shop window display tradition, “Paint Macon Pink.”

The project, “Macon’s History Has Always Been Pink with Pride,” will celebrate the history and legacy of Tangerine Summers, one of Macon’s most legendary drag queens and Cherry Blossom royalty, according to Macon Pride.

Co-founder of Macon Pride, DeMarcus Beckham, says participating in this event will not only honor the LGBTQ community but also bring everyone together.

“Inclusion for everyone—not just the LGBTQ community, not just people who are African American or straight, whatever,” Beckham said. “This is an opportunity for one to bring history, to tell a bit of history of our town at the Cherry Blossom Festival, but also to commemorate those before us.”

The display will join the celebration of the Cherry Blossom Festival’s vibrant legacy. To see the pink display of Tangerine Summers, visit the window of The Bohemian Den downtown.
