Ocmulgee Mounds named one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places for 2025
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon has been named one of TIME’s "World’s Greatest Places" for 2025, placing it among 50 global destinations highlighted as must-visit locations.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon has been named one of TIME’s “World’s Greatest Places” for 2025,
It was named among 49 global destinations as must-visit locations, one of 16 in the United States to receive that designation.
The designation, announced Thursday by TIME, recognizes Ocmulgee Mounds for its cultural significance as an Indigenous site and ongoing efforts to establish it as America’s next National Park.
According to TIME, the selection process involved nominations from correspondents, contributors and an application process that considered destinations offering new and exciting experiences.
The listing also acknowledged the work of Visit Macon and Macon-Bibb County in strengthening ties between the city and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Those efforts include the recent installation of bilingual street signs downtown.
The full list also included another Georgia location: the Georgia Safari Conservation Park in Madison was named as one of 51 of the greatest places to stay.
