Cold start to the new week then a chance for rain late Tuesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – High pressure is anchored across the Ohio River Valley. The high will move east overnight and should emerge off the Mid-Atlantic coast by mid Monday. Meanwhile, a surface low and cold front across the Central US begins to shift east towards the Mississippi River Valley. We will remain dry for at least the next 24 to 48 hours. Our temperatures are near normal and are expected to remain that way through the forecast period. In the long term, a strong surface low out of the southwest is developing over the next few days which will result in the next round of thunderstorms for the southeast.
The timing of the line has it moving through Georgia in the morning hours which will limit the amount of punch these storms could have. After the front moves through, there is a chance for some wrap around precipitation for North Georgia. Towards the end of the week, we’ll dry out and temperatures should bounce back into the 60s and 70s.
