MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Atrium Health Navicent unveiled its new “Mobile Mammography Coach,” nicknamed “Marlie,” on Thursday.

The coach will help provide lifesaving care to people by providing mobile breast cancer screenings on the road to places like schools, companies and churches across Middle Georgia.

Latasha Hill, the Breast Imaging Service Line Manager at Atrium Health Navicent, spoke about the need for this service in the community, saying women often face numerous obstacles when trying to access mammograms.

“So this early detection through this mobile coach, it’s going to help save lives and prevent breast cancer,” she said.

Patients can expect their mammogram results to be electronically sent to the Breast Center, with results typically available in about three days.

Atrium Health Navicent’s mobile coach is the first of its kind in the community.

“You have state-of-the-art equipment, 3D mammography equipment, so that women are getting the most advanced mammography test, they get their results in a timely manner,” she said.

Atrium hopes to reach people across all corners of Middle Georgia and beyond. The mobile service will also accommodate individuals without insurance.
