Rain to arrive early Wednesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cold rain will arrive in Middle Georgia ahead of the sunrise Wednesday.
This Evening and Overnight
The clouds filled in throughout the late morning and afternoon across Middle Georgia today. Those will not budge through this evening and into the overnight hours. Wind has been light and variable but will flow from the east at around 5 mph through tonight. Temperatures overnight will jump a good bit from last night as they only fall into the lower 40s and upper 30s. Rain will likely enter the western counties of the region ahead of the sunrise tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow
It will be a cold and wet start to Hump Day for Middle Georgia as rain will be ongoing through the sunrise and the morning. While rain totals will mainly stay under half an inch, locally heavier amounts could be possible. Temperatures will likely be in the lower 40s during the morning rain, so an extra layer under the rain gear would be a good idea. There should not be too much wind as it flows from the northeast at around 4-8 mph.
Once the rain slows in the late morning/early afternoon the clouds will stick around as the wind starts to pick up a bit from the north-northeast. Gusts will push upwards of 20 mph throughout the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will peak in the upper 40s for most of the region in the late afternoon. A few stray showers may also linger.
Overnight clouds will work to clear as the wind shifts more towards the north-northwest. Sustained speeds will range from 5-12 mph with gusts pushing 20-25 mph. Temperatures will likely drop to around or just below freezing by Thursday morning. Road temperatures will remain above freezing, however, so no icing over due to the morning rain is expected.
Thursday and Beyond
The wind will get even stronger Thursday afternoon as it flows from the northeast-northwest at 10-17 mph, gusting in the range of 20-30 mph throughout the afternoon. Expect afternoon highs in the low to mid 40s across Middle Georgia. Thursday night will be frigid as temperatures plummet into the low to mid 20s. Middle Georgians who are concerned about any plumbing issues should consider dripping their faucets.
Mostly sunny skies and a gradual warming trend will end the week and carry into the weekend.
