Monroe County Man Fights for Innocence After Child Molestation Accusations

Firefighter medic James Weeks spent more than two years battling accusations of child molestation.

“I was accused of molestation of my two children,” says Weeks.

In 2009, his oldest daughter claimed she had been molested by Weeks. For the next two years, Weeks found himself in and out of court trying to prove his innocence.

He says, “The biggest thing that kept running through my mind was what did I do to fail my child.”

Weeks was not allowed to contact his daughters during that time, however he received a text message from his oldest daughter, Victoria.

“She told me that she never wanted any of this, that she felt like she had to do it, and that my ex-wife was all to blame for it,” says Weeks. It was then he realized this was the result of a divorce turned ugly.

Weeks was a volunteer with the Monroe County Fire Department and part-time employee for emergency services, but says as soon as the news got out the fire chief announced he hadn’t been an employee or volunteer in the county for a long time.

Weeks’ life turned upside down.

“I had to think about what happened if I went to jail, what did I do to wrong my child…” Weeks says.

Finally in July 2011, a jury returned a verdict in Weeks’ favor. Although he says it’s over, he still struggles with proving his innocence in a court of public opinion.

“I’d like for my life to go back to how it was before, but I know that’s not going to happen,” says Weeks.

Weeks currently works for the city of Morrow’s fire department.

41 NBC asked Monroe County Fire Chief Ronald Norris why Weeks can no longer volunteer at the fire station there, but he declined to comment.
