Three Southwest players sign to Clayton State University
"They meant the world to us, they were leaders and role models to the community. They were just great kids overall," said Joseph Dupree, Southwest’s head football coach.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Three Southwest players signed on National Signing Day on Wednesday.
Wide receiver and cornerback, Jamarea Watkins; defensive end and tackle, Marquis Hutchings; and defensive end and tight end, Kyle Jefferson, are all going to Clayton State University.
We spoke with Southwest’s head football coach Joseph Dupree about the students’ time at the school.
“Oh they mean the world to us,” he said. “Like I said, they was the backbone for the last four years. They’ve been great kids, no trouble, great students. So that’s what we teach here. We try to create good student athletes. Not just football players, but great citizens. They meant the world to us, they were leaders and role models to the community. They were just great kids overall.”
“J. Watkins plays receiver,” Dupree said. “Had a great year, a lot of good touchdowns, caught a lot of good balls, good route runner, high IQ.”
“Marquis Hutchings is a quiet storm,” Dupree said. “He don’t say much, but he plays very hard. He’s the backbone of the defensive line. He was one of captains, been a captain the last two years and was a three-year starter.”
“Kyle came to us from Mary Persons,” Dupree said. “His parents work at school. He anchored the D-line as well, had a great year, got injured a little bit, missed a couple games, but he overcame that.”
“Those three young men will do Clayton State well, be an asset to the program and I’m looking forward to seeing great things from them,” Dupree added.
Dupree says all three students going to Clayton State University is a great opportunity to stay together and play at the next level.
