South Carolina man arrested after high-speed chase in Washington County
A South Carolina man was arrested Sunday after leading deputies on a high-speed chase and tossing a duffle bag filled with suspected marijuana out of his car, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A South Carolina man was arrested Sunday after leading deputies on a high-speed chase and tossing a duffle bag filled with suspected marijuana out of his car, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 68 South, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. During the stop, the deputy reported smelling a strong odor of suspected marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Before the deputy could investigate further, the driver sped away, which led to a chase. During the chase, the driver threw a large duffle bag out of the window. Deputies later recovered the bag, which contained several pounds of suspected marijuana.
The pursuit continued for several miles before the driver pulled over and was taken into custody without incident, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver was identified as 44-year-old Wesley Brown of Johnston, South Carolina. Brown was charged with speeding, fleeing and attempting to elude, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to the sheriff’s office.
The case remains under investigation.
