GSP: Passenger dies in Wilkinson County pursuit crash, driver seriously injured

WILKINSON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A vehicle pursuit started by Wilkinson County deputies on Georgia Highway 57 led to a crash on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to another person, according to Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened at 7:29 p.m. after deputies tried to stop a vehicle in Wilkinson County. The driver refused to stop, and that led to a pursuit. During the chase, a Wilkinson County deputy performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.), causing the vehicle to overturn, the Georgia State Patrol said.
The crash ejected both the driver and the passenger from the vehicle. According to troopers, the passenger died at the scene, while the driver was seriously injured and was transported to Atrium Health Medical Center in Macon. The deputy involved was not injured.
