MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bike Walk Macon has secured a $60,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the fourth consecutive year and plans to use it to educate the community and reduce the number of pedestrian and cycling deaths.

The organization, now celebrating its tenth year of service, is excited to bring Macon new programs and events to showcase a healthier and safer lifestyle.

Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon, Rachel Umana, says they will be providing better policies, bringing back programs like “Open Street Macon,” and providing safety and law enforcement courses.

“What that does is fund our education program,” she said. “We have an education instructor and education manger who carries out classes and events for thousands of people throughout the year. Last year we reached about 8,000 people through our education programs.”

Bike Walk Macon will also be providing youth classes for kids who walk or bike to school. To learn more about upcoming events, or to join in, visit BikeWalkMacon.com
